The winter storm caused power outages over the lakes area and Brainerd Public Schools chose to go two hours late Thursday because of weather conditions.
Power outages
About 9,400 Minnesota Power customers including in Crosby and Pequot Lakes lost power after heavy, wet snow knocked down trees onto power lines.
“Our crews worked through the night and by 6 a.m., had restored power to all but 500 customers,” Amy Rutledge, communications manager at Minnesota Power, stated in an email. Minnesota Power was down to about 44 customers without power by 11 a.m. and only two by 4:30 p.m.

The Baxter City Council approved a parking variance for Menards on Dellwood Drive, voting 4-1 in favor of the proposal.
The resolution allowing a smaller parking lot for Menards, as well as the conversion of a mezzanine warehouse area into retail space, faced criticism and debate during the meeting Tuesday, Jan. 19. The resolution permits Menards to have a parking lot with 187 fewer parking stalls than required by city ordinance.

SUSPICIOUS Report at 4:44 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, of a vehicle driving around the 13000 block of Grand Oaks Drive, appearing to be suspicious. The driver was looking at Christmas lights in the area.
Report at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday of suspicious vehicles outside a residence on the 4000 block of Cedar Scenic road. The resident said her house alarm alerted her to the vehicles. Older vehicle tracks were found in the yard but were already snowed over. The officer checked the exterior of the yard but found nothing. Extra patrol was requested.
Report at 2:31 a.m. Dec. 16 of suspicious activity on the 11000 block of River Vista Drive. The officer located fresh bicycle tracks and footprints entering the driveway at the location. The tracks matched those of a related burglary.
