staffed during this holiday season. cnn s camilla bernal is in los angeles this morning. i see the strike is still happening. what can you tell us? reporter: hey, marianne. this is the scene outside a number of hotels in los angeles. if you re staying at the j.w. marriott, for example, it s what you re waking up to. it s not necessarily pleasant for the guests here. these are the people behind the scenes. these are the people that cook and clean. even though the hotels are going to stay open, it is significant because, of course, you re seeing them outside instead of working in the hotel. they have a number of demands, including, of course, higher wages and better pension. but they re also asking for better conditions when they re working, safer work loads and essentially just better health care. one of the things that they re really interested in is the housing fund as well. what they re saying is and it s almost impossible to live
overwhelmingly voted authorize a strike. about 11,000 members of the writer s guild of america have been on strike for two months, bringing production to movies and television shows to a halt. if the actors follow suit in going on strike, it could stall most remaining productions. dozens of major hotels in california are bracing for a workers strike this holiday weekend. thousands of staff from more than 60 hotels are expected to walk off in a push for better wages. some of the big names likely to be affected are j.w. marriott, hilton, and sheridan grande. this is significant, because we are talking about 15,000 hotel workers. these are the people that greet you when you get to the hotel, the people that are behind the scenes, that are cooking and cleaning, and they have a number of demands. they re, of course, asking for higher wages and better pensions, specifically, they re asking for a $5 an hour increase. but they re also asking for better health benefits, for safer workloads,
