Erling Haaland scored twice - including an acrobatic Goal of the Season contender - as Borussia Dortmund cast rock-bottom Schalke nine points adrift of the relegation play-off spot in a one-sided Revierderby.

A TOUGH NUT
Currently fourth in the Spanish league, Sevilla are the reigning Europa League champions. They finished second in Champions League Group E this season behind Chelsea, progressing to the knockout stage for the first time since that 2-1 aggregate defeat to Bayern, who also beat the Andalusians by the same score in this season’s UEFA Super Cup. Julen Lopetegui’s side have lost only one of their 18 competitive matches since the end of the group stage (W15, D2), winning the last nine and not conceding a single goal in the last seven.
ONE PREVIOUS VISIT
Dortmund have come to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan only once before in a competitive match, earning a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Shinji Kagawa and Neven Subotic under Jürgen Klopp in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League group stage. Sevilla’s last Champions League knockout game here saw them lose 2-1 to Bayern in the 2017/18 quarter-finals.
Mats Hummels was out with a slight knee injury and Marco Reus, Raphael Guerreiro and Gio Reyna were all on the bench at kick-off, but the home side soon began to exert their dominance and put their visitors on the back foot. It wasn’t long before their pressure took its toll, as Can rifled in at the back post after Paderborn failed to clear their lines at a corner. Sancho doubled BVB’s lead with just over a quarter of an hour on the clock when he collected Julian Brandt’s pass in a central position, held off his marker and prodded past goalkeeper Leopold Zingerle from close range. Brandt and Thomas Delaney both went close to adding their names to the scoresheet, while at the other end Marwin Hitz was largely a spectator, although he did have to be alert to keep out a powerful angled shot from Christopher Antwi-Adjei.
4-2 Thuram (79 )
Gladbach wasted no time taking the game to their visitors and they thought they were in front after just 50 seconds but Florian Neuhaus curled effort was ruled out after a Jonas Hofmann foul in the build-up. Gladbach s early pressure soon told as Elvedi backed up his midweek heroics in the 1-0 win over Werder Bremen by heading his side in front once more. That goal shocked Dortmund into life and they were level soon after as Jadon Sancho brilliantly fed Haaland, whose clipped finish over Yann Sommer into the far corner was exquisite. Sancho was purring and minutes later he combined with Emre Can and Jude Bellingham before again teeing up Haaland to fire Dortmund in front. The back-and-forth was unrelenting and Elvedi had his and Gladbach s second within three minutes as Bürki could only parry Lars Stindl s free-kick into the centre-back s path for a tap-in from close range.
Erling Haaland will be eager to add to his array of Bundesliga records for Borussia Dortmund against Jean-Philippe Mateta and Mainz on Saturday (kick-off: 2.30pm GMT).
