Tax on sugary drinks slow to gain traction in Africa

Africa lags behind in joining the growing number of countries around the world that have imposed taxes on sugar-sweetened drinks as a key strategy to ease the public health burdens associated with obesity. Sluggish reform and industry resistance to change will pile pressure on the public health purse on the continent. And it’s children and young people who will bear the brunt of disease. Children and young people make up the majority of the population on the continent.
