東海岸唯一杉原海水浴場經修繕，今年8月24日重啟開放，成為台東水域遊憩的首選，隨著東北季風愈發強烈，台東縣政府今宣布自10月1日起至明年3月暫停救生員戒護服務，呼籲民眾及遊客切勿冒險戲水。台東縣政府表示，杉原海水域場自開放到9月23日止，入場人數超過1萬3000人，遇逢週休二日假期都可見到民眾攜家帶眷戲水遊玩，享受東海岸最美沙灘，但考量東北季風逐漸增加，為顧及戲水民眾安全，將暫停救生員戒護服務。救生員戒護服務的時間為每年的4月1日至9月30日，10月以後至隔年的3月為水域活動淡季，將無救生員進駐，不過，期間每日上午10點至下午6點仍維持開放。
