trump associates and hillary clinton during the campaign. ten days before election day he sends a letter to the head of the oversite and reform bill in the house to say essentially we re looking into hillary clinton s e-mails again. that was a big deal. the second thing you want to look for and this is what republicans are going to zero in on with comey and everybody else testify chg is who knew about general flynn and can we figure out who leaked from those intelligence sweeps and they re looking either to get actual names for people that served under barrack obama or in the intelligence community. either way that s something they want to find out. their chance of satisfaction on that isn t the best in the world. they have been asking several steps down. but you never know. on the wiretapping question, the real success will be that it s not about wiretapping. he has to go further and talk
answer questions. on wednesday, additional questions for him if it s not over and people who want to testify for and against the nomination. pete, we re looking at a shot of the fbi director, visible above all other staff and security, coming down the hallway. to everyone s shock and horror, we remind our viewers this will be partisan affair. and, pete, at the t of this committee it s interesting, there s two republicans, one republican, one democrat a chairman and a head of the minority. one republican, one democrat. very different members of congress from the same state. yes, but i think here united in the desire to have as much information out as possible about these two issues, the wiretapping question and then the general question of to what extent there was russian influence in the campaign, that s pretty well a settled
thing they want to do. these things happen in secret. they can take years to yield results. they rarely ever do yield results, let s be honest about that. and so the director of the fbi sitting there, being asked, is there an investigation. and this is probably the most kind of sensitive investigation the fbi does. so, again, moving outside of the wiretapping question, let s say they get past that pretty quickly here. then the questions could be, because they can ask anything they want here. the russian connection question about the campaign and thereafter. absolely. mean, that seems to be the logic california extension of where this is going. and i think we re going to have some discussion about that. and, be again, i think comey is going to be in a very difficult position, which is, you know, he doesn t want to answer those things. and, again, there is there is counter intelligence operations, there is counter intelligence investigations. also just traditional investigations. a
a surreal game of contain the president, and that s a really unusual situation for the country for reasons we should not ignore. where was the question he was asked do you refute or repudiate the statements by general mcmaster and talk to fox news, the president said. let me play how he answered it again, okay? he said we said nothing. let s be specific about it. let s look at it. here it is. we said nothing. all we did was quote a certain very talented legal mind who was the one responsible for saying that on television. i didn t make an opinion on it. that was a statement made by a very talented lawyer on fox. and so you should .talking to me. you should be talking to fox. but again, erin, i didn t hear the question. was the question, do you repudiate or refute what general mcmaster the exact question was from a german reporter. he d been asked his response to
question and he shows with that lip locking and the blocking hi eyes. his face was gesticulating i guess what you do with your hands but seems like his face was gesticulating, moving it so much. having a party in that moment. shows a lot of emotion contrasting that with angela merkel, she is very calm and does not show a lot of facial response. completely nothing, even when he makes the joke. let me play this because political commentators are focusing on this when trump answers wiretapping question. as far as wiretapping i guess, you know, this past administration, at least we have something in common, perhaps. [ laughter ] what do you see there? it s a double take moment for her. she ll look over and squint her eyes in a moment of confusion, maybe not sure what he s saying or how to respond to it. then she returns back to a very
