over. it s still cold as i m standing outside right now and my eyes are tearing up. it s just that i m really emotional about this. it s not the cold temperatures. see what it feels like across the country. diving right in with that temperature map. still 9 degrees feels like curse in new york city. still plenty of spots in the negatives. look at texas. everyone is at or blow freezing. same is true in florida. things are going to change as we kind of pay attention to what is happening here in the last 28 degrees warmer in kansas city. real story in the week ahead is going to be a break down in. this all the way close tort middle of the week. look at that see temperatures and highs running back into the 40 s, back into the 50 s by the middle of the week. this is a breakdown that real cold type of winter system we are talking about. the same is going to be the case across the midwest and same the case here across the northeast. boy, i can t wait for that
to be able to take off at this point is on christmas day. take a listen. we were just anticipating to see cancel on our flight. but it kept on saying green, on time. and so we got here, went through security, checked our bags. and about a half hour before boarding began, we actually got notification from the united app that the flight was canceled. it s no surprise that this would happen. it s just unfortunate that this is how this weekend s going to go. and of course tied to all of this is this huge winter system that s descended on the u.s., bringing snow and of course heavy winds. even in d.c. at reagan national airport there was a plane trying to land, and you can see it sort of pushing back against what must ve been very intense winds trying to what looks like almost land sideways, and then the pilot clearly decided we can t do this, and had to pull out of that attempted landing. and it s probably why the

anita: all right, this once in a generation storm wreck your holiday plans, meteorologist adam klotz has your fox weather forecast. adam, mike tobin things were looking better in chicago, what do you say? things are improving. the temperature is absolutely freezing and you re seeing everything here that has a color means that you re at freezing or below, 32 degrees or below. the winter system has lifted on out and now what we have the really cold temperatures and still some of that wind and that wind adding to what it feels like outside. suddenly the wind and temps that s when you get windchill temperatures down in teens and single digits across much of the country. yesterday we have negative 4 s. goes into the south texas border with mexico all the way around the coast and getting over to
more than 2,000 for tomorrow. all of this smack dab in the middle of the christmas travel rush. it s not just snow. it is wind and cold as part of the huge winter system descending on the u.s. days before christmas. over this week more than 80% of the country s population will see at or below freezing temperatures. some places way below, like denver, where the temperature dropped nearly 40 degrees in just an hour. hitting negative 15 by thursday morning. or wyoming where a state trooper took this video, zero visibility and temperatures 60 degrees below zero. elsewhere, parts of the midwest are doing what they can to keep up. one of the biggest concerns in a winter system like this are the roads. this dome is part whaf it takes
