Sunday afternoon was a stark contrast to the week before. The sun was shining. Temperatures were well into the 60s. Cars filled the streets and people were going about their daily business. But there are still people who are suffering the crippling effects of last week’s Winter Storm that paralyzed the entire state of Texas with ice, snow and arctic air that dropped temperatures to below 0 over several nights. Many are still without electricity and water; food supplies are scarce and many have water damage to their homes as the result of frozen pipes that have burst.
You may think you're home is in the clear from winter storm damage if you don't physically see any problems. But issues could be lurking. Here's what to know.
HOUSTON, Texas Houston s Southern Smoke Foundation has kicked off a new round of fundraising in response to the devastation of the winter storm. These efforts include intriguing new chef dinners, a collaboration with global burger juggernaut Shake Shack, and a massive donation from a concerned Houstonian.
Over the weekend, the local nonprofit announced the creation of its Texas winter storm relief fund that will benefit restaurant workers statewide. Hospitality workers in need of emergency cash assistance - for example, to repair a home damaged by burst pipes - may apply via the organization s website. Since the start of the pandemic, Southern Smoke has issued over $5 million in grants nationwide.

Many of you have heard stories and seen video from Texas, and are asking for ways to help out.
Donations are being accepted in the Baton Rouge area that will pour into Houston. They are asking for bottled water, maybe even gift cards to Home Depot or Lowes.
