thanks for joining us. i m fredricka whitfield. joe biden is on his way to the southern border ahead of the north american leader summit in mexico city. moments ago, he boarded air force one and departed for el paso, texas, where he will eventually assess the situation along the border for himself. this will be his first visit to the border during his presidency. his administration is under fire from republicans and some democrats over the migrant crisis along the southern border. el paso, texas, had seen a record level of migrants and asylum seekers arriving in recent weeks, hoping a trump era law blocking border crossings would be lifted. cnn s correspondent is at the white house for us. so this trip comes just days after biden unveiled a new immigration plan. what more can you tell us about the president s visit and his goals? reporter: joe biden will spend roughly three hours in el paso, texas, a city that s been at the center of the immigration debate for years now. it
