HANCOCK John C. “Blackie” Herres, 85, a resident of Hancock passed away Sunday morning May 2, 2021, at the Winona House of Portage Pointe in Hancock following a lengthy battle with Dementia.
The Memorial Chapel and Plowe Funeral Homes of Hancock are assisting the family with the arrangements which will be announced at a later time.

It wasn’t exactly the shootout at the O.K. Corral, but then again, Rochester in 1879 wasn’t the Wild West.
This, after all, was a modern, civilized city of 5,000 people, with hotels, banks, stores, passenger train service, and a no-nonsense police officer named Henry Kalb.
Marshal Henry Kalb, the Post Bulletin reported years later, “was as feared by hoodlums as he was respected by the local citizenry.”

HOUGHTON Marian F. Tallman, 89, a former resident of the Bluff’s Senior Living Community in Houghton passed away Monday, February 15, 2021, at the Winona House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient. The Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes of Hancock are assisting the family with the arrangements.
