OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The murder trial for a Winnebago man accused of killing his fiancé last year on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in northeastern Nebraska has been postponed until mid-summer.
Jonathan Rooney’s federal trial, which had been scheduled to begin May 10 in Omaha, has been pushed to Aug. 16 on a defense attorney’s request, the Sioux City Journal reported.
Rooney, 26, of Winnebago, is charged in U.S. District Court with second-degree murder and tampering with documents or proceedings in the killing of Kozee Decorah, 22, of Winnebago.

Sioux City police investigating a murder at a home near Glenn and South Mulberry Street in Morningside. A news release says when officer arrived for a check welfare call this morning, they found a man and woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Detectives believe they identified all of the parties involved and are not looking for any suspects in the case. A spokesperson was not able to confirm if the deaths were caused by murder-suicide.

Authorities haven’t released more details on a farming accident in Woodbury County that killed an eight-year-old. The accident happened yesterday afternoon on a farm east of Climbing Hill.

LINCOLN, NE March 1, 2021   Rural Nebraska communities in FEMA declared disaster counties have utilized $1.3 million of the $2.2 million provided by USDA for disaster recovery. These funds may be used for non-disaster projects also. The grants are available through the Community Facilities Program.
A sample of the funded projects include emergency type (siren, firetruck, ambulance, pumper truck, sheriff mobile and computer equipment, police vehicle, police department body cameras), electronic signage, dump truck, public works and utility truck, new auditorium equipment, and renovations to essential community facilities.
More than 100 types of projects are eligible for Community Facilities funding. Eligible applicants include municipalities, public bodies, nonprofit organizations and federally recogni
