Wine Unify Announces 20 Welcome Award Recipients NAPA, May 4, 2021 Wine Unify, a nonprofit organization founded to champion and promote diversity within the wine business, is proud to announce 20 recipients of its second round of Welcome Awards. Since launching in June 2020, Wine Unify has provided a total of 50 awards to BIPOC wine professionals and enthusiasts. Each Welcome Award includes: a fully-funded Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 Certification course through the Napa Valley Wine Academy; glassware for tasting provided by Stölzle; additional funding for supplemental study wines from Wine.com; and collective mentorship with Wine Unify’s team of wine professionals. These awards are one piece of the organization’s core mission to welcome, elevate, and amplify the voices of underrepresented minorities in the wine business.

Can you tell us about your background and how you got into the drinks industry? Jamele Favorite has surprised himself just how much he has enjoyed becoming part of the wine sector. Picture by Alec Arambula I went to Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. Received my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I found myself working in the hospitality industry at a few different hotels as a guest service representative and then a guest relations manager, becoming a leader in guest service both online through social media and throughout the hotel property. I found myself in the drinks industry mainly in part due to Music in the Bottle podcast.

Liquid Icons Announces Launch of The Golden Vines Awards, The Golden

March 05, 2021 Liquid Icons – the fine wine research and content production company founded by the late, great Gerard Basset OBE MW MS and his friend Lewis Chester DipWSET – are delighted to announce the launch of The Golden Vines Awards and fundraising event that will support various diversity and inclusion-related wine education funding programmes globally. In association with The Birley Clubs, The Golden Vines Award Ceremony, Dinner & After-Party will be held at Annabel’s Private Members’ Club, London’s pre-eminent private members’ club, in Mayfair, London on 7th October 2021. The not-for-profit Golden Vines Awards event will recognise the ‘star performers of the fine wine industry’ and raise funds for The Gerard Basset Wine Education Charitable Foundation with the aim of funding diversity and inclusion-related wine education programmes, including the headline Golden Vines Diversity Scholarship, Internship & Mentorship Programmes.
