Windsor-Essex COVID-19 business impact survey highlights

A recent survey shows 32 per cent of respondents had a positive change in attitude about doing business in the Windsor-Essex community over the last year.

Most Windsor-Essex businesses expect to feel COVID-19 impact for next 6-18 months

  WINDSOR, ONT. The impact, adaptation and outlook of local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic is highlighted in the recent Windsor-Essex Economic Development Survey. Workforce WindsorEssex, St. Clair College, and Invest WindsorEssex launched the results of the survey on Thursday. The survey received 280 responses from local businesses, the majority of which were from the Retail and Manufacturing sectors. Of the 280 responses, 41 per cent were from micro businesses, which have between one and four employees. It showed 77 per cent of respondents expect to feel impact of COVID-19 pandemic for next six to 18 months. This annual survey, which was conducted from April 8-30, 2021, identifies the needs of businesses and assists economic development professionals to develop strategies that will support businesses to stay, grow, and become more competitive.

Now, Windsor, Ontario, is the first Canadian city to partner with the Ford Safety insights Platform (FSIP), a business line within the Ford Motor Company.

Cavalier to chase work on larger projects through acquisition Cavalier Tool & Manufacturing Ltd. Windsor, Ontario-based Cavalier Tool & Manufacturing Ltd. says its acquisition of Mold Services International Inc. improves its capacity and capability to meet demands for big projects from automakers. Windsor, Ontario-based Cavalier Tool & Manufacturing Ltd. has purchased Mold Services International Inc. of nearby Oldcastle, Ontario, to increase its production capacity and technology to go after bigger projects. Founded in 1997, MSI manufactures injection and compression molds at a 22,000-square-foot facility for the automotive and other markets. Cavalier officials said the MSI plant will increase its capacity in gun drilling, electrical discharge machining, plate milling, large roughing, large five-axis equipment and toolmaking. The added capabilities are facets of the business we usually outsource, Cavalier President Brian Bendig said in a news release.
