our London music venues “in the direst need of urgent assistance” have received emergency aid as part of a £230,000 crisis fund distributed by Music Venue Trust (MVT).
The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington and Tottenham’s The Post Bar have both been granted £20,000, Windmill Brixton was given £10,000 and The Lexington in Angel secured £5,000. This money will allow the venues to survive until 2021.
Twenty other venues around the country will also benefit from this latest round of aid.
A spokesperson for Windmill Brixton said: “This award from MVT is most timely as we are in Tier 3 and have no idea when we will be able to reopen again. It takes us very close to our target amount to secure the venue until early spring.
Ben Howard Collections from the Whiteout
Some of Ben Howard s subsequent music has had a problem with murkiness, lacking the ability to hold attention as it smears ambient passages all over. On this fourth album, his stepping to one side really works. He has accepted the involvement of producer Aaron Dessner’s impeccable address book, found a balance that could please everyone.
For Those I Love For Those I Love
The dance music that David Balfe creates on this extraordinary debut album is lively and often beautiful, scattered with high vocal samples, but the real focus is Balfe’s starkly personal spoken word delivery. There are echoes of The Streets, The Blaze and Jamie xx, but this is something all its own.

They ve covered Jingle Bell Rock and Stevie Wonder s What Christmas Means To Me
black midi have released an EP of Christmas covers in aid of London venue Windmill Brixton.
For the EP, the Rough Trade-signed band have covered 50s Christmas classic Jingle Bell Rock and Stevie Wonder s 1967 track What Christmas Means To Me . Guitarist Geordie Greep and drummer Morgan Simpson share vocal duties for the covers. We recorded a couple of covers of our favourite Christmas tunes at our rehearsal room and then added some bells and whistles at home, the band s Cameron Picton says. Usually we would do some fun one-off covers shows at the Windmill around this time of year so hopefully this goes some way to fill the gap.
