Flood watch issued over north central Wyoming through Monday By Greg Hirst on June 5, 2021 (Shutterstock) CASPER, Wyo A flood watch has been issued Saturday by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton for large portions of north central Wyoming. NWS Riverton “Unseasonably warm temperatures and a ripe snowpack above 9000 feet has result in rapid snow melt [Saturday],” NWS said, leading to a risk of flooding of small creeks, streams and rivers. “Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.” The alert is in effect through Monday. Though the next few days wills be cooler, there is a typical lag of a day or two before the snow melt water reaches the main tributaries, NWS said.
