Yazd, an ancient city in Iran s desert, is known for its tall wind catchers that provide natural cooling without electricity or emissions. These architectural wonders, called badgirs, have been used for centuries to cool the city s dwellings. Yazd s bioclimatic architecture and underground aqueducts, known as qanats, have attracted interest as sustainable solutions. UNESCO has recognized Yazd as a World Heritage Site for its intelligent use of limited resources. However, these traditional architectural methods have been overshadowed by modern construction and the use of energy-intensive materials.
