COUNCILLORS in the city of Winchester are poised to fund street calming, but may review funding for a new scout hut. Highcliffe Community Forum for Action want funding for measures on Milland Road and requested £36,000 to create a ‘living street environment’ and boost walking and cycling, writes Andrew Napier. Councillors on the town forum instead agreed a grant of £10,000 for a feasibility study with the potential of a further £26,412. The scheme would be managed by cycling charity Sustrans and need the support of the county council, the highways authority as well as local residents. Meanwhile, £50,000 had been approved in principle towards a new scout facility at Abbotts Barton and Hyde (6th Winchester) Scout Group.
