On July 28, 2020, Winchester Public Schools and the School Committee voted unanimously to no longer use Native American or Alaskan lingo as school mascots and to have Superintendent Judy Evans come up with a transitional plan for the new Winchester High School logo and/or mascot.
During the Feb. 23 virtual meeting of the Winchester School Committee, a new identity was recommended by the Winchester High School Rebranding Committee: the Red & Black.
Over 75 people volunteered to be part of the process and helped create the Winchester High School Rebranding Committee was created.
“I could not be prouder of these kids, as well as the adults on the Committee,” Winchester High School Principal Dennis Mahoney said. “We love the idea of honoring the past, honoring the history because it respects a lot of people and what they did before us.”
