Frosty conditions in Wedhampton, Wiltshire this morning
Drivers are being urged to take extra care in icy conditions to avoid an unwelcome slide into the new year. Overnight temperatures dropped to a low of minus 7.3C (18.9F) in Wiltshire, and frost and ice are expected to last into next week, the Met Office said. A smattering of snow welcomed in the New Year in some areas across the county this morning. Wiltshire gritters, such as Spready Mercury and Buzz Saltyear, were out in full force last night last night in a bid to minimise ice on the roads today. A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “Due to cold weather overnight, we would ask motorists to be aware of potential ice on the roads.
