Testimony begins in Register reporter Andrea Sahouri trial, two DMPD officers take stand

Des Moines Register Prosecutors have begun making their case against Des Moines Register reporter Andrea Sahouri, who faces charges stemming from her arrest during the George Floyd protests in May 2020. Sahouri, a breaking news reporter for the Register, was arrested May 31 while covering a protest outside the Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines. She and her then-boyfriend, Spenser Robnett, were pepper-sprayed and charged with failure to disperse and interference with official acts. Both charges are simple misdemeanors with a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Polk County Attorney Brad Kincade and student attorney Brecklyn Carey. Carey argued the case boils down to three questions: Were Sahouri and Robnett ordered to disperse; did they do so; and when arrested, did they attempt to pull away?
