The New York State DEC and Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation launch new trainings to help prevent domestic and sexual violence at the hundreds of parks, campgrounds, day use areas, trails, boat launches, and other public outdoor spaces operated across New York.
2020 was a “record-breaking” season at the campground despite limiting camping to around 60% capacity due to COVID-19, but that 2021 exceeded those visitor numbers by more than 12%.
ALBANY â The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced last week that its 56 campgrounds and day use areas are now open to the public.
While two DEC campgrounds opened earlier this spring â Fish Creek on April 2 and Wilmington Notch on May 7 â most DEC campgrounds opened the weekend prior to Memorial Day weekend.
Camping reservations are at an all-time high, the DEC said.
The department also announced improvements at several of its campgrounds.
At the Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area in North Hudson, on the site of the former Frontier Town theme park, the DEC said it continues to advance modifications to the equestrian camping area in response to feedback received since the facility opened in 2019, including the following:
