At least 20 PCC results were announced out of a total of 39, with 16 victories for Tory candidates against four for Labour. Formerly safe Labour seats in northern England lost to Tories.

The finish line is in sight in one of the strangest election campaigns Leicestershire has ever seen.
The Covid-19 pandemic not only delayed the elections by 12 months but has also loomed large over the run up to polling day on Thursday May 7.
The battle for votes was further disrupted by the suspension of campaigning last month following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.
