Cool April rain couldn t dampen the spirits of the student volunteers from Judson University Saturday as they helped clean up homes in Willow Lake Estates in Elgin.
With a spring in their step, the group dodged rain drops to help some 50-60 families in the riverside subdivision. The effort was organized by Jeorge Holmes, a Judson alumnus and the founder of Love Elgin Day.

A precautionary boil water notice was issued Wednesday for residents of the Mims area.
The precautionary boil water notice stems from a water main break that occurred near 2564 Myrtle Avenue in the Mims water service area. The repair has been completed and water service should be restored to all residents.
As a precaution, it is advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
Local communities get $4.1M in state road grants

The county will receive more than $4 million in state money to help repair roads next year in most of its cities and towns, but a majority of the funding will go to Center Grove area neighborhoods.
Johnson County communities will receive $4.1 million in Community Crossing grants for 2021 road projects, the state announced last week.
About half of the $4.1 million will go to repairing streets in White River Township subdivisions that have aging concrete roads. All of Greenwood and Johnson County’s $1 million shares will be spent in those neighborhoods.
City and county officials say the subdivision work will repair some of the worst areas in many subdivisions with aging infrastructure. Both of the projects will convert the streets to asphalt, simplifying future maintenance.
