When Anna Richeson was a young girl, her family gardened out of necessity, growing vegetables to feed the household.
Gardening was part chore, part bore for Richeson on her family’s Ohio farm. She remembers all the weeding – filling a 5-gallon bucket and needing the approval of an adult before she could be done.
“They used to stick their foot in it and push it all the way down and you’d have to go back out,” Richeson said. “So I just hated everything about it.”
