The city hall and community center location debate continued at a July 10 work session, with City Administrator Leslie Valiant offering new options to consider: Skylark Center or Block 50
Three of the public hearings are related to the rezoning of land, and the other public hearing is for the issuance of general obligation bonds in the amount of $9.4M for street improvements.
Design concepts and cost estimates for a new city hall and community center were heard Monday for several locations, including the current Willmar Community Center site, the former JCPenney at Uptown Willmar, and a potential city hall/Willmar Municipal Utilities campus.
“Tonight’s a night to reflect on our progress and look forward to the future of Willmar,” Willmar Mayor Doug Reese said. "I promise to look at each action, motion, resolution that passes over my desk, determining if the action is good for our city.”
Willmar City Council approved the preliminary levy and budget for 2023, which was presented by Mayor Marv Calvin, at its Sept. 19 meeting. This amount may decrease before the final levy is approved after the Truth-in-Taxation public hearing Dec. 5, 2022, but it cannot increase.
