Radio presenter Stephen Foster recalls some memorable interviews with rock legends in his latest On Air in Suffolk column
Making the switch from insurance claims clerk to trainee radio reporter back in 1982 didn’t come easy at first.
I don t mind admitting it took me a while to feel comfortable about my move from my office desk at Willis Faber and Dumas in Friars Street in Ipswich to the busy news desk at Radio Orwell.
For the first few weeks I thought I d made a huge mistake but I needn’t have worried. My new colleagues had a wealth of journalistic knowledge between them and they were more than happy to share it with me.

Ian Grutchfield is venue director for Hadleigh Old School, Suffolk’s new arts and events venue, which opened during the pandemic and has ambitious plans to stage a variety of cultural events. As a TV executive, Ian relaunched Doctor Who in 2005, with Christopher Eccleston as the ninth doctor and oversaw consumer marketing and international merchandising through to the 12th Time Lord Peter Capaldi. He also released a UK number one single for the Teletubbies (employing Simon Cowell) and secured an Oscar for Wallace and Gromit. He lives in Hadleigh with his husband, Matthew, and rescue dogs, Connie and Elvira.
good inning. this is definitely the most special time i have been able to talk about the book, because my fifth grade elementary school teach teacher is here. [applause] thank you for coming. so, the book does not have a subtle title. subtlety is not usual live my thing. so you probably have a sense of my argument. but first i wanted to talk about why i wrote this book, and i believe at the core that the most powerful thing that we can do as citizens and the most powerful means by which we can express our citizenship, is simply to ask questions. i think sometimes we think it s these other things but i think at the core, of course some things are important, what our democracy requires is citizens who ask questions, and i don t mean questions like, are we there yet? or one that my teacher has heard, there is more homework tonight? i mean, inquiry, you know, really thinking and formulating your question and reformulating and it evaluating the results and discerning the aut
