Nigerian governors from the southern part of the country have resolved to ban open grazing of cattle in their states.
This was part of the 12 resolutions reached by the governors at their Tuesday meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Open grazing of cattle has often caused conflicts between host communities and migrant herders, leading to several deaths in many states.
Some of the herders have also been accused of committing other criminal acts, including armed robbery, kidnappings and murder.
At the Tuesday meeting, 15 out of 17 governors were in attendance. They are Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos).

meeting held in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The Southern Governors, who met for over four hours in Asaba, the Delta state capital on Tuesday, expressed serious concern over the rising wave of insecurity also urged the Federal Government to convoke a national dialogue as a matter of urgency just as they reaffirmed their stand on the ban of open grazing across Southern Nigeria

Rising from their just concluded four hour security meeting held in Asaba, the Delta State capital, the governors of the southern part of Nigeria have demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari as a matter of urgency, should address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity and restore the confidence of the people.
Only 15 of the 17 governors were in attendance at the meeting.
They are Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Dr Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos).
