Then & Now: Keith Block, Depot Square, East Brookfield Mike Elfland, Telegram & Gazette © T&G Staff/Christine Peterson The Keith Block in Depot Square, East Brookfield, built by William Keith in 1887 and home for many years to town offices. William G. Keith made his way to East Brookfield in the late 1800s, having been born in Maine, and soon opened up a supply shop. He traded in furniture, stoves, paints, oil, pumps, cutlery. A hardware supplier to mills and to the workers who toiled in the mills. In 1887, he commissioned a three-story building in Depot Square, in the foreground of our Then photo. It was a solid structure, fancy for its time, home to one of the first telephone lines in East Brookfield.
