Oneida County Eagles Fight Off Another Nest Attack

Raising kids is never easy whether you re living  in a city, rural community, or high in the trees like these Oneida County Eagle parents. Their nest was attacked for a second time and our wildlife photographer William Straite was there to capture the moment. William, who spends more time in the field than most of us spend just being awake, was on an adventure to update the nesting eagles as eaglets are due to be hatching soon. Saturday we watched another attempt to invade the nest this time by an Osprey and it again involved one of the Eagles having to fight the Osprey in mid air.

It s also a pretty good indication spring is near too. The DEC moved all their courses online when the pandemic struck shutting down all government agencies last year. Now as we creep ever so close to a return of normalcy, they will begin to resume holding in-person, instructor-led Hunter Education Program courses starting April 1. DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos says they will continue to offer online hunter education courses, as well.

Forget Groundhogs, Here s Real Proof Spring Nears in Utica Rome

Forget furry rodents who poke their head out once a year to predict when spring is coming to Utica Rome. Here is proof positive warmer temps are near for Central New York. Over the past few weeks our wildlife photographer, William Straite has been sharing photos of Central New York Eagles battling for food. Often as many as 50 of the Raptors could be seen in one place, especially along the Black River, as food sources grew scarce with snow cover and frozen waters. Then one day, they were gone. They left one afternoon and not a 1 came back to any of the locations that I use for shooting feeding frenzies.
