Book of condolence opened for Duke of Edinburgh A BOOK of condolence has been opened for residents of West Dunbartonshire to mourn the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh. West Dunbartonshire Council opened the online book for tributes as well as lowering the Union Jack to half mast on all civic buildings. Prince Philip passed away on April 9 at the age of 99, the longest-serving royal consort in British history. As well as the local form, there is also a national book through the royal.uk website. It’s all part of a new campaign, being backed by the Reporter and West Dunbartonshire Council, to get men in Dumbarton and the Vale talking more openly and candidly about their health. In particular, we are backing calls by the Cahonas Scotland charity, which is based in West Dunbartonshire, to get men in the area to check themselves regularly for anything untoward – in case it turns out to be a sign of testicular cancer.
