When Board President Mickie Lewis introduced herself during Monday s La Junta Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet, she reluctantly described herself as a transplant, to La Junta and Colorado. Nonetheless, as she expressed, she loves being in rural Southeast Colorado. I wish that I can say that I was from Colorado, said Lewis. But it s not fair, I m not. I ve been here my entire adult life, which is a pretty significant amount of time. I guess eventually, maybe I ll be allowed to wear that moniker. But I did choose La Junta and I did choose Southeast Colorado. I have spent over 20 years developing programming that helps rural and urban areas, but specifically meeting the needs and the requests and the desires of the community that I am serving. I m very humbled to be and happy to be part of this community. I have absolutely grown not just to love it but in love with it.
