NSW police failed to arrest a retired lecturer for the death of a Sydney gay man as they believed the 77-year-old suspect was "too old" to have been the murderer, a special inquiry into anti-LGBTQI hate crime deaths heard on Wednesday.
A special commission of inquiry that is looking into unsolved anti-LGBTQI hate crime deaths in Sydney between 1970 and 2010, will this week examine the cases relating to the murders of seven gay men.
