After a gunman opened fire at a July 4th parade, Highland Park schools provided mental health services to families grappling with trauma from the shooting that claimed seven lives and wounded dozens more.
School shootings have become an ever-present fear, and teachers receive extensive training in how to respond to mass shootings, but Chicago Public Schools teacher Zoe Kolpack was watching the Highland Park parade with her husband, their two young children and other relatives when this mass shooting began Monday.
Zoe Kolpack, a pre-kindergarten teacher at William Dever Elementary, and her husband were among those wounded during Monday's mass shooting. A GoFundMe has already collected more than $130,000 for their medical bills.
