Duke rape case. I am talking about the duke lacrosse scandal once known as the rape case. It happened in 2006, march 2006. To april 2007. By the way, it is still ongoing. That is another topic. At the time, it was the flight 370 at the time. Everybody was focused. When i went back to researching this and to study this and write about as a duke alum, i wanted to know what happened. There was never a trial and i wanted this book to be the trial that never happened. I was surprised at how few people wanted to talk about this. How few people were very happy with the outcome that had been resolved by the attorney general of North Carolina who declared these boys innocent which is a very unusual legal term usually in a court of law, somebody is declared not guilty or guilty. The concept of innocence is foreign to the legal profession. I wanted to know what happened here. I was shocked at how difficult it was to get people to talk to me, including people at duke. Most striking thing to me when i talk, sit in rooms in lebanon or turkey or jordan and talk to refugees, sit in Community Centers and meet, you know, ive got in my mind 35 women who are in one of our health centers, they will tell you unbelievable stories of horror and loss. And the only time they will smile is when you ask them do you ever think youll go back . And extraordinarily strikingly, their face changes s and they say, yes. And thats someone who 30 seconds before was talking about her house being bombed and her husband being lost and her son being lost. But that, none of them expect to go back anytime soon. I think thats the other side of the coin. And i dont its a very technologicallyenabled and connected population. Theyre reading the ruins in the same way that we are. They see the news reports. They know that president assad is not going to be toppled tomorrow. They can see the war lengthening. They go backwards and forwards, by the way, a point that hasnt come up very much

Montgomery Blair High School in silver spring, maryland. They believe congress should make filibuster reform their most important issue. Many of us recognize the iconic image of a talking filibuster. One senator standing up and talking what he or she believes in for as long as they can stand. I will speak until i can no longer speak. I am not going to leave this body until i do get them, sir. Many people dont know there have been hundreds and hundreds of filibusters in the past few years alone. There is an invisible filibuster that has bought the senate to complete halt requiring every bill to have 60 votes to pass. This is the silent filibuster. 60 votes to get him confirmed. The necessary 60 votes. In 2014, Congress Must enact serious filibuster reform in order to return the senate to its democratic roots. Before talking about the filibuster today, we have to look into the senates past. The filibuster was born in 1806. Former u. S. Vicepresident aaron burr gave a speech in front of t
