This time next week. Ali, i have to say, this is one of the most humiliating periods in american political journalism, and it is that period that includes the guessing game of whos going to be selected for Vice President. Some of the dumbest things that we ever say are said during that period, and are proven so when the choice is made. So im going to just stay quiet. Given the things that weve had to speculate about in the last 3 1 2 years, this one feels light and not too damaging. Thats a great point. It really is fun. Thank you, ali. Have a good evening, friend. Thank you. Well, if youve never seen the attorney general of the United States lie under oath to the House Judiciary Committee, today was your lucky day. And i say lucky because being a witness to history is lucky. Those of us who lived through the watergate investigation that brought down the nixon presidency consider ourselves lucky to witness all of that in the early 1970s, because it showed us having very, very important
Donald trump is using the powers of his office to try to reverse the results of the election, orchestrating a farreaching Pressure Campaign to persuade republican officials in michigan, georgia and elsewhere to overturn the will of the voters. To recap, the first trump tried telling people that he won on election night. When that didnt work because all the voltes hadnt been counted. Now hes calling on republican state lawmakers in michigan to change the Electoral College volts to subvert the will of the michigan voters, even though he lost the state by more than 150,000 votes. We wont know anything until the state board of canvassers meet on monday to certify the michigan vote. They said theyve seen no evidence to warrant reversing the outcome of the vote in their state but whether or not trump can successfully steal a president ial election and subvert democracy, the effort itself is dangerous. It threatens the basic premise of our democratic system for years to come. Heres former pre
Election. And i cant believe it. But Lindsey Graham last night at maralago said he wanted to continue investigating hillary clinton. And the clinton emails. Its just its absolutely rid its absolutely ridiculous. And i think the democrats have a constitutional responsibility to continue to conduct oversight of this administration. And just because the republicans didnt do it doesnt mean the democrats shouldnt. Thats exactly what they should do and let the facts like Robert Mueller let the facts lead them to their conclusions. So stick with us, if you can. Just want to reset for those who might be just joining us. It is 5 00 p. M. In washington, where were following and in new york and on the east coast entirely. Jake reese, day to feel alive good morning, im joy reid at msnbc World Headquarters in new york. Todays headline in president ial politics comes courtesy of a new poll released just this morning. It shows in the democratic and republican races, the candidates polling highest in terms of popularity are not the candidates who are on top. Senator Bernie Sanders and Governor John Kasich are the only two president ial candidates with net positive ratings among register voters. Though no one in the poll manages to get to 50 . Senator sanders is rated at 45 positive to tlish negative. Compare that to frontrunner Hillary Clinton who has a 56 negative rating and just 32 positive. Clinton does fare better than donald trump, however. Heats gets a thumbs down from 65 of those polled. Senator ted cruz has rated negatively by 49 of registered voters while kasich is bobbing just above the waves at 31 up, 19 down, which also gives you an idea of how little known kasich still is. Vox.
