The Royal Horticultural Society are preparing for the grand opening of their first new garden in more than a century. RHS Garden Bridgewater has been created on the site of the historic seat of the Earls of Ellesmere – Worsley New Hall in Salford.  Designed by renowned architect, Edward Blore, Worsley New Hall was a grand Gothic-style house built in the 1840s. Alongside the hall, extensive and magnificent gardens were landscaped over a 50-year period by notable designers of the day, including William Andrews Nesfield. Sloping areas were transformed into formal terraces with ornate fountains, a lake was created as well as a croquet lawn, tennis court, and an 11-acre walled kitchen garden. Last modified on Sun 28 Feb 2021 11.21 EST A vast architectural gem, often nicknamed “the Welsh Versailles”, is crumbling into ruin despite its Grade-I heritage status and several unique claims to fame, much to the distress of the building’s many fans. Now the sad state of Kinmel Hall, a mansion near Rhyl in Conwy and the largest surviving country house in Wales, has prompted the launch of a campaign to shame its owners, a property company based in the British Virgin Islands, into either explaining their intentions, fully restoring it or selling it on. But to begin with the “Kinmel Resurrection” campaign is targeting Conwy Council and the Welsh government, who members believe both have a duty to help to preserve the mansion, now neglected for a decade.
