I left you with a bit of a cliffhanger heading into the third post in this series. While we will remain primarily in chronological order, this piece, unlike its predecessors, will not remain nearly as positive. That s because we will be looking at David Dahl s defensive statistics, and his dreadful 2020 season.
Among outfielders who have 500 or more innings in the outfield since the beginning of the 2018 season, Dahl ranks 167th of 186 qualifying players. By UZR/150, Dahl is 119th of that 186. He s not a good defender, in fact, he s worse than Wille Calhoun if we solely use DRS. Just in case, you don t believe me, you ll find the DRS results from Fangraphs below:
