Wyoming Valley
Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center is selling bouquets of pinwheels to raise funds and awareness to prevent child abuse in the region during April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Bouquets of 10 pinwheels are $25 and can be purchased by emailing Shannon.peduto@luzernecountycac.org, call 570-208-2895 or purchase via the CAC website. Pinwheel bouquets are available for pickup now through April 30. Area residents are encouraged to purchase pinwheel bouquets and plant a pinwheel garden on their property to demonstrate their support for efforts to prevent child abuse in the area.
Back Mountain
A craft and vendor sale, indoor and outdoor, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Dallas Eastern Star Hall, 15 Foster St., Dallas. Crafters and vendors will have a variety of items for sale. Welsh cookies will be sold. Lunch will be offered and takeouts are available. Wyoming Valley
The Friends of the Osterhout Library have reopened their used book shop, on the third floor of the main library at 71 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, on a reduced schedule. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays, by appointment, which can be made by calling the library at 570-823-0156. Inventory includes hardcover/trade books, $2; audio books, $2; paperbacks, $1; childrenâs books, two for $1; young adult books, $1, and coffee table books, priced as marked. Masks are required and social distancing will be implemented, allowing two shoppers per half hour time period. All proceeds benefit the library.
Hanover area
Due to the recent storm, the Sons of AMVETS and Ladies Auxiliary of AMVETS Post 59 have rescheduled their meetings to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 578 Fellows Ave., Breslau, Hanover Twp. For information, call 570-825-8197.
Northwest area
Sylvania Lodge in Reyburn, 249 Trailing Pine Road, Shickshinny, will hold a drive-through fish fry every Friday during Lent from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 to April 2. Menu includes a choice of fried or baked fish, baked potatoes, vegetable, tartar sauce, cole slaw, dinner rolls and cake for dessert. Cost is $10.
West Side
DAV Chapter 102 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Post 283, Kingston. SVC Willard Rollins, acting commander, will preside. Masks must be worn. The meeting will be held weather permitting.
