This week marked the goal date Gov. Kate Brown set for school districts across Oregon to start bringing students back for in-person instruction, and more than 100,000 students are back for some form of in-person instruction.
At the end of December, Brown declared the state s school reopening metrics would be advisory instead of mandatory and said by Feb. 15, she wanted to see more schools, especially elementary schools, moving to in-person instruction.
Now, months later and having reached that deadline, 311 schools (19%) are in on-site learning and 286 (18%) are in a hybrid learning model, according to the state s latest weekly report. Oregon has nearly 561,000 K-12 students, according to latest enrollment reports, and there are 130,421 students receiving some form of in-person instruction. More than 43,600 are in full on-site learning and about 62,600 are in hybrid learning. A hybrid model is a combination of distance and in-person learning.
