Nairobi ward representatives have raised concerns over perennial understaffing at the Office of County Attorney, which has seen 50 external lawyers claim Sh6 billion in legal fees.
The underfire county legislators have been given three days to explain why actions should not be taken against them, failure to which the contemplated action will be taken against the seven without further reference.
The seven include Lower Savannah MCA Nicholas Okumu, who was installed by the rebel group as interim minority whip last week, Kennedy Oyugi of Highrise, Kabiro’s Clarence Munga, and Fredrick Omondi of Kayole Central.
Others are Mathare North MCA Jared Okode, his Ngei Ward counterpart Redson Otieno and Maurice Gari of Nairobi West.
Munga and Okode were among three ODM MCAs, together with Sarangombe MCA Lawrence Otieno, who voted with their Jubilee counterparts to remove public accounts committee chairman Wilfred Odalo, an ODM MCA, from the helm of the watchdog committee.
The discharged members include Sarang’ombe MCA Lawrence Otieno, Kabiro MCA Clarence Munga and his Mathare North counterpart Jared Okode.
Mr Otieno was de-whipped from Trade and Water committees, Mr Okode from Transport, Planning and Culture committees, and Mr Munga from Implementation, ICT, Culture and Trade committees.
The three “rebels” have been accused of going against party position at the assembly by siding with Jubilee Party MCAs to vote for the removal of public accounts committee (PAC) chairperson Wilfred Odalo, a fellow ODM MCA.
The three appended their signatures together with 12 Jubilee MCAs to see Mr Odalo removed at the helm of the watchdog committee despite ODM being against the move.
