WildSafeBC Kimberley Cranbrook is advising that there have been several black bear encounters with a sow and two cubs in the Nordic trails. WildSafe says the sow is displaying defensive behaviour and is bluff charging people with and without dogs. They advise you to stay clear of the area until the bears move on.
RDEK Board Highlights
The following is a summary of some of the items covered during the April 9 Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Board of Directors’ meeting.
Steamboat Jubilee Mountain Official Community Plan Adopted
The Board adopted Bylaw No. 3022, a new Official Community Plan (OCP) for the unincorporated communities in Electoral Area G. The new plan builds upon the first OCP for Area G that was adopted in 2006 and includes a number of updated land use polices, including new development permit requirements to mitigate the impacts of development on environmentally sensitive areas, and to help protect new construction from wildfire. Landowners proposing to undertake new construction or other land altering activities should consult the OCP and with RDEK staff to determine if their project is impacted by the new development permit requirements.
