Mountain lion captured in apartment complex near Neary Lagoon [Santa Cruz Sentinel, Calif.]
Jan. 1 SANTA CRUZ A lion, but no tigers and bears.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife safely removed a mountain lion from the back of the Cypress Point apartments just north of Neary Lagoon about 5 p.m. Thursday. The big cat had been patrolling the area for a number of days, with the earliest sightings reported on Dec. 17.
“He’s big, but more importantly he looks very thin and emaciated,” Director of Wildlife Emergency Services Rebecca Dmytryk said of the surveillance footage she’s seen on social media. “Whatever caused his emaciation is probably what’s driving him into an urban area where there’s easier food.”
