The torrential rain at the weekend has broken Nelson Mandela Bay’s “meteorological drought” but, with its biggest dam, the Impofu, still sitting below 20%, the city is not yet out of the woods.
Valiant groups of volunteers braved the gale-force wind and raging spring high tide at the weekend to collect dozens of bags of rubbish along the Gqeberha coastline as part of the International Coastal Cleanup, which today involves 150 countries worldwide.
Three areas on the stunning Wild Coast, Chintsa, Morgan Bay and Kei Mouth, have once again achieved the Wildlife and Environment Society of SA’s (Wessa) Green Coast status which marks them out as exceptional rural coastal sites. The three sites last week won the right to proudly fly their Green Coast flags which tell the world they have been chosen for their extraordinary care of sensitive habitats, species and cultural heritage.
