Wildlife Rehabilitation & Release looking for new home

Special to The Union Did you have a tree come down recently in the storms? Be sure to see if there are any babies in them. Squirrels are starting to have babies now as well as songbirds and birds of prey. Provided photo Wildlife Rehabilitation & Release (WR&R) is looking for a new home in Nevada County. We have been caring for wildlife for about 36 years now and it is time for us to move from our rented store front and volunteers’ homes. We need some property with about five acres that is zoned agriculture residential, utilities available, and maybe a building or barn where we could start out. We would like to lease this property or lease with an option to buy. We need a place that is easy for the finders of injured wildlife to access, and with room for volunteers to park while they work with the animals.

New protected area relieves pressure on primates and pangolins in South Sudan

News Bucknell University/FFI By Tim Knight, 18th February 2021 The future of globally important wildlife – including endangered chimpanzees and pangolins – looks a little brighter after over 17,000 hectares of severely threatened forest habitat in an ecologically unique region of South Sudan were granted formal protection. The regazettement of Bangangai Game Reserve will ensure that this unhailed haven of biodiversity is brought under more effective management at what is a crucial juncture for the country’s impressive but imperilled natural wonders. A decade has elapsed since Fauna & Flora International (FFI) accepted an invitation to help kick-start conservation in the newly declared Republic of South Sudan. Given our proven track record of operating in crisis and conflict zones, we were never likely to decline such an opportunity.
