Fire at Matheson Wetlands Preserve

Firefighters responded to a report of flames at the Scott and Norma Matheson Wetlands Preserve, off Kane Creek Boulevard in the northwest part of Moab at around 2 a.m. on April 8, arriving in time to keep the fire to about half an acre. While the cause of the fire is still undetermined, there was no lightning activity in the area that could have ignited the flames. The fire completely consumed the structure, intended to serve as a bird-watching spot, as well as damaging a wooden boardwalk leading to the structure. The preserve will remain closed to the public until the area can be safely stabilized.

Santa Rosa Starts Giving Out Free Weather Radios

April 8, 2021 From Mayor Chris Rogers Facebook Page The City of Santa Rosa hosted its first distribution of free weather radios to families in fire prone areas. The NOAA radios are linked to the NOAA weather alert system and can broadcast important information during emergencies. Santa Rosa secured a grant from FEMA to provide 12,000 free radios to those who live in the Wildland Urban Interface. 2,000 radios were given away at the pop-up distribution site in Oakmont, and additional drive-thru pop-ups will be held in Rincon Valley, Fountaingrove, and Bennett Valley.
