The Hops were blown away by a bad outing from their starter Kenny Hernandez, but all other minor league teams were able to put up good fights. The Aces and Visalia achieved a victory, but the Sod Poodles unfortunately went down once again.

Best Pitcher: Amarillo (AA) RHP Ryan Weiss - 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K
Best Hitter: Visalia (Low A) SS Sheng-Ping Chen - 1 for 3, BB, HR (1), RBI, R, 1 K
Ryan Weiss struck out 7 and walked 1 in 6 no-hit innings for Amarillo, but unfortunately it didn’t matter because the position players contributed very little at the plate. A Dominic Fletcher double and Geraldo Perdomo single were the only hits for the team to go alongside 3 walks. The pitching was good, as Matt Gage fired 2 scoreless innings to keep the game tied at no score through 8. Unfortunately Ryder Jones made a fielding error with a runner at first that put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and a sacrifice fly would score the walk-off run.

Identifying players who seem primed for future success is a point of pride for our MLB Pipeline team, much like it is for every Major League organization.
Looking at last year’s list, nine of the 30 players we identified as breakout candidates now rank among MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects, and there are four players from last year’s group who already have reached the Major Leagues.
And while the nature of the 2020 season has made our annual exercise more challenging this time around, there still are countless prospects who possess helium heading into the 2021 season after strong performances in the Major Leagues, at alternate training site and/or during fall instructional league.
