Children are being tested twice a week, though it is not compulsory. The first three tests are completed in school and the results are emailed to parents and carers. After that, tests are expected to be sent home with school children, so they can carry them out themselves.
Tests for families and those leaving home for essential reasons On February 28, the government announced plans for families with school children to be offered tests, alongside other mass testing in the community. Some areas already have sites where you can pick up supplies of Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs). There is nowhere to do that on the Isle of Wight yet, but there are plans for one.

The Island s rapid Covid-19 testing centres, for people without symptoms of the virus, have so far carried out more than 1,500 tests. Around one in three people with Covid have no symptoms, and could be spreading the disease without knowing it, so residents are being urged to make use of the new test sites to help fight the spread of the virus. The centres enable people to conduct free lateral tests taking less than 30 minutes to complete.

The Isle of Wight Council is using funding from central government to set up symptom free (asymptomatic) testing sites and has already opened centres in Newport, Sandown and Ryde. The two new centres will be in Cowes and Yarmouth. Community testing is for people without Covid-19 symptoms, who cannot work from home. If you do have symptoms, you should self-isolate immediately and book a test for people with symptoms online or by calling 119. Those tests will take place at the Newclose Cricket Club site.
