The junction in question is where Wiggenhall Road and Thomas Sawyer Way meet. It was introduced after a new access route was created to Watford General Hospital. Central Watford and Oxhey county councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst says he has obtained figures, which show there were ten personal injury accidents at the junction since it opened in 2015. The data, which runs up to November last year, shows there were three serious accidents, one of which involved a cyclist. Cllr Giles-Medhurst said: There have always been concerns about dangerous and illegal U-turns at the junction and the inadequate signage and controls on the U-turns here.

William Carre sent in this picture of Wiggenhall Road before the final stretch of pavement was added It would seem that others are equally frustrated. Ms Serra’s letter highlighted the issue of those who hold posts creating a problem, only to take credit for resolving the very issue they initiated. I have to echo this concern. All too often we see articles about cuts in public spending, yet surely if projects such as the Wiggenhall Road footpath were fully considered at the planning stage, money would be saved, not wasted. As a pedestrian and keen Hornets fan, I was pleased to hear the pavement was to be laid. Sadly this was short lived. Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst only commissioned a short section to be installed. This resulted in pedestrians, families and mums with buggies being taken straight into the garage forecourt. Why would you allow this madness?

FIVE YEARS AGO Hospital chiefs admit they need a bigger A&E unit after it reached crisis point. The lack of beds and over-stretched services forced West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust to suspend services for adults with minor injuries or illnesses several times this week. Patients have faced long waits to see a doctor and others have described how there were trolleys queuing up outside the A&E ward with patients waiting to be seen. David Gaunt, divisional director for unscheduled care at Watford General Hospital, admitted the hospital needs a bigger A&E department to cope with patient demand.
