Fine for selling illicit tobacco A NEWSAGENT has been fined after a raid uncovered more than 100 packets of illegal cigarettes Shuaib Ahmed was fined £300 at Wigan Magistrates Court following a raid by Bolton Council’s trading standards team in March 2019. Officers visited Sultania News on Halliwell Road, owned by Ahmed, and uncovered 139 packs of cigarettes and 7 pouches of tobacco which it is illegal to sell in the UK. A member of staff was working behind the till and officers searched the premises using a specially trained sniffer dog. Illicit tobacco, which is not in approved UK packaging and does not carry required health warnings, was found under the shop counter and in a cardboard box in a storeroom.
Alan Friday A FORMER Cheshire Police officer has been sentenced for harassing his ex-wife after posting pictures of her on a swingers dating website without her consent. Alan Friday, 42, then went on to bombard his ex-wife with phone calls to stop her from reporting him. He committed the offence while he was a serving police officer, posing as the woman in the picture on the Fab-Swingers website and talking to men. When he was caught out, Friday, who is from Liverpool, then emailed his ex-wife in an attempt to stop her from calling the police. The Crown Prosecution Service said that after she told him not to contact her, he bombarded her and her family with phone calls and repeatedly visited a family address where he knew she would be.
