for african-americans and people of color and frankly for all americans. and then i think he has to deal with the sustainability of social programs which in government programs which disproportionately impact african-americans. as we had this debt ceiling conversation about whether we raise it or not, there are large implications here. let me ask you about this because we are in the middle of this huge fight, medicare, medicaid, social security, all these kinds of entitlement programs are being looked at as a way to deal with the debt. but you argue they will disproportionately affect african-americans. well, sure. everything from afdc to wic programs to head start to social security, medicare, medicaid. i mean, this is a serious thing for america in general. but like most things that i mentioned at the outset, unemployment, et cetera, the african-american community gets hit disproportionately. as you saw, reverend sharpton and west went at it on town hall you had on race a couple
distinction hold on a second. the white house said they did make an agreement on the money. they say that they had settled last night in the meeting at the white house, on $35 billion. joe? and democrats are saying, look, joe, democrats are trying to pull the cuts from other places. let s remember that while republicans are trying to pull the rug out from under women with planned parenthood, they re also cutting things like wic programs which help low income women and health care centers which help low income women. this is 1995 all over again when ideology will shut it down. hopefully not. there are differences in deep differences in ideology. and there are people who are on both sides of the life issue. and republicans feel very strongly about the life issue. but you ve got to realize that at the end of the day that money doesn t fund abortions. that s why i don t understand why it is an argument. you can be on different sides of it. the federal money doesn t fund abort
